How to Make a Spectacular Floor Lamp with Logs

For all the log home fans out there, this is a great tutorial on how to make a spectacular floor lamp with logs. If you're fortunate enough to live in the wilderness, you may even have logs available to you so you wouldn't have to go to far to pick one up. If not, you can go for a nice nature hike in a local forest and see what you can find. Make sure you check the local laws in your area to see what they say about collecting fallen trees out of the forests, and don't chop down any tree unless you know it's legal and how to safely do it. Wood is one of those materials that will always be used for making everything from houses to log wood furniture, as well as personal items and home decor. Finding the right pieces of wood to make log cabin furniture could prove to be difficult if you're not located close to a forest or park, in which case, you could check your local lumber yard to find out what they have available. Choose a log that is as tall as you would like your lamp to be. Decide the height of the lamp, the one in the tutorial looks like it's a good medium size. Make sure that you like the look of the log as well.

Once you have your log at the desired height you want it, you'll begin to cut slices into the log, creating several pieces that are about 2 cm minimum. The thicker wood pieces look really good and could also make the lamp more structurally stable, so it wouldn't hurt to keep them on the thicker side. Once you have all of your cuts made, you will be ready to drill holes in the centre of your wood slices. The holes will be for a plexiglass tube that the LED track lights will be inserted into. The plexiglass tubing can be ordered online through Amazon, or you can maybe find it at a local hardware store. Once all of the holes are cut into the centres of the wood pieces, then, you varnish them all a few times to seal the wood. Insert all of the lights into the tube and set them in place with some clear tape. Once the varnish is dried on the wood slices, they can be placed on the tube, making sure to space them out nicely. You can also apply some wood glue to the inner ring for this part of the project to stick them to the glass tube.

When you're all finished, you'll have an awesome log wood furniture piece that will bring a beautiful glow to any room. There's something so pretty about light glowing off of wood that will make you feel like you're in a log cabin, sitting by a wood burning fire. This would be a great addition to any other log cabin furniture, or it would also look great in a modern style apartment, to add a little bit of a natural decor.
